There were the fox and the walrus, the caribou and the muskoxen. Rootsi was speechless.
“Hit me with a melody!” the fox yelled, making a musical beat, slapping the ground like it was a drum.
“Wooh! Wooh!” went the birds.
“Clap! Clap!” went the walrus.
“Scratch! Scratch!” went the fox.
“Boom! Boom!” went the oxen.
“Bop! Bop!” went the caribou.
“Whoosh. Whoosh,” went the wind.
Rootsi smiled as the animals made their music. The bears came out of their dens to hear it. All sorts of animals came from the other side of the mound to see who was playing the music they had never heard before. The music was beautiful, but there was something missing.
“We still need your voice,” the fox whispered in Rootsi’s ear.
Everyone looked at Rootsi as he stood nervously before the crowd and filled his small lungs with the cold air.
Rootsi’s roar went “Toooot! Tooooooooot!” and it was his most beautiful roar yet.
The crowd cheered and the fox smiled and all together the animals played:
